After many hours traveling the day before, we were excited to get going to see out west! Thankfully our hotel had breakfast, so we filled up and headed out. First brief stop at Hemenway Park, this was not the time of year that the rams were there, which was what I was hoping for, but did see other wildlife.
We enjoyed a quick view before heading to the Hoover Dam.
As soon as we got out of the car, the kids started immediately climbing up this large boulder/wall that was right next to where we parked. Having not seen anything like it before, clearly they were ready to explore. However, this was not the place to do so and just the parking area for the overlook.😆
Quite sunny to try to get a family selfie.
Zoe with her .5 skills...
and help from a stranger.
We then walked over the actual dam and checked it out more closely.
I spy my girls reflection.
It was pretty amazing how all of it was built!
Such a great way to kick off our trip!

Continuing on, our next stop was Kingman, a small town on route 66 that was once more significant in our country, but still had a few things worth stopping for!
And then lunch at an old dinner.
Such a great way to share some pieces of the past with the littles.
Rootbeer floats in iced mugs was a huge yes for them!
A few more photos before getting back on the road.
The kiddos were pretty wiped from the previous late travel day, on to the next stop.

Travel hack: getting a pass that includes a lot of different adventures allows the fun and finances to spread that much further. We used a Get Out Pass again for the area. You have a year to use all the different things and you may end up trying some unique things that you wouldn't have otherwise. While we were only able to use a small amount of items, it was way worth it still and a great deal. So we took a slight detour for our first use of the pass at Keepers of the Wild Nature Park.
We got to see some adorable monkeys that showed us his toys and how he did tricks...
bears...
and tigers up close.
Peep the massive farmer's tan.
We spent a while exploring all the fun!

There were a couple more small towns along route 66 with some worthy things to see...
especially for my car loving boys!
Ice Cream stop in Seligman.
With many interesting things all around.

I had planned to be at a beautiful spot in Sedona to watch the sunset. I was hoping it would work out with timing (I had instacart deliver groceries to the house for dinner, so not to miss it). It looked like it was going to be cloudy, though, driving the amazing drive there, but I prayed and hoped.
And God gave us the bet sunset of the trip!
The area itself is a vortex. There was a local musician playing away on instruments that I wasn't even sure what it was called but very fitting and added to the magic.
Such a beautiful time, I wanted to capture the glow on everyone's faces!
I wanted individual shots with all my loves as well!
I should have traded places with the extra tall one, since I was a little lower and she towers over me.The progression of the sky really was something else!
Thankfully Zoe enjoys photos now!
What a fantastic way to end such a fantastic day!
Can't wait to head out to explore more the next day!
