Since we didn't get to go on our big vacation (due to Shiloh being so sick), I did want to take a little time away together as a family. I was not doing well physically leading up to the trip, and I worried that I would not be functional for such. God was very gracious, though, and I felt well enough on the morning we were to leave.
I have vague memories of going to Helen, Georgia as a child and thought that would be a fun getaway to check out. Since Shiloh gets car sick, having multiple stops along the way is helpful for her. So I found a few things along the route, including our first stop at Happy Cow Creamery.
Zoe reported this was the first cow she had seen up close (that she remembers at least).
We got some goodies at at their store...
including some chocolate milk....that we busted dad getting a swig of in the car while we were taking pictures! 😅😆
Next stop was a very small town where we got coffee.
They had a mini flight option, so I opted for that in order for the kids to have a mini drink as well.
They appreciated such!
We walked around the mostly deserted main street before heading to our next location, Rocky River Nature Park, for a walk. We had packed picnic lunches but found that there was not a picnic table, so we improvised.
It was a beautiful day for a walk and the kids thought we should take a picture!
We were clearly in spot that must have been flooded with the recent hurricane, as you could see the markings on the trees how the water had risen in the areas. All the plants up to that point had a thin mud coating.
There was not much change in elevation in the area, so not as exciting as the kids would have liked, but in the little area that did have some they wanted to explore more and take pictures.
Then we headed to Anderson (which we have never been to before) where our AirBnB was located. They have a free museum, which we checked out.
Next, we headed to a goat farm: Spilt Creek Farm.
It was fun to see so many beautiful goats and get to pet them.
These were headed to the State Fair later that day.
We purchased some internationally award winning goat cheese that I was excited to try (and it was excellent).
Finally stop, we made it to our AirBnb that was on a lake. We headed to the dock and the sun called my name (along with my now tired body) and we relaxed.
After a nap for me, Beach got the kayak going and we took turns with the kids!
It was a beautiful night! Zoe wanted to paddle me on her own without me doing any work. So I enjoyed my sunset ride!
I, also, got take take Ezra out as well!
We headed out for a nearby local BBQ for dinner (interesting set up and I somehow managed to order in a confusing way).
We all enjoyed the food and the kiddos had cultural questions about the very southern culture that we were in.
We went back to our AirBnB and played a game of Chinese Checkers before heading off to bed after a full day!
