Jelly All Over My Face (Otherwise Known as Eating in the Dark)

Our friends are members at Capital City Club and asked if we would want to join them for a special event, Dinner in the Dark.  Ok, so I get that the eclipse is coming and it is a pretty big deal but surly we would not be in complete darkness.  Why would I want to do that?  Beach assured me there would be candles, I told him I doubted such.  I was informed that hey, this is a big city thing (not just a novel eclipse event).
Adult time with friends?  Regardless, I am in.  So the lights were dim when we got there and I decided that it would be wise to use the bathroom beforehand, no need for everyone to hear me stumbling around like a fool later in the dark.  We sat at the end of a large table and waited as others joined.  Capital City is very accommodating in making us feel comfortable and valued for this unique experience.  They provided masks for us to put on while they brought out each course and once the doors were closed, we were free to take off them off to the totally darkness!
We were told nothing about each dish besides, where it was in front of us and the size of the plate.  It was truly pitch black. (The food pictures were compliments of their FB website where we got to see what we ate later.) The first of the four courses was petite and had an amazing mix of flavors that left my taste buds wanting more!
It is an interesting thing, being in a room full of people that quietly waits in anticipation and then is at a loss without a major relied upon sense to try to identify what is on their palate.  I totally ignored the fact that I am not supposed to eat glutton or dairy and enjoyed every bite that I could taste it in.  Some in our party were more picky then others, so not being able to see for them was stretching and perhaps they tried some things that they normally wouldn't.
I found myself truly concentrating and paying so much more attention to my food, my other senses working overtime to give me some clues.  We giggled at the gelatin like structure that was on the plate above to the left. I ended up with it all over the table clothe, hands and face so it was hard to forget.  I had no idea what was in the center, the only guess was a mild cheese like substance.  However, the goose pate turned out to be a favorite for Beach!
The sea bass was amazing, although I wonder if they were trying to pull a trick on us with not having a ledge on the plate!  A bit of a game in itself trying to get the food to stay put.  The presentations were outstanding even if we never got to see it!
Be still my heart with the final course of a creme brulee cheesecake!  I know my plate was fully scrapped from this one.  A bit of heaven in my mouth.
At the end the chef came in and explained what we had eaten and was available for us to ask questions.  He did an amazing job and I enjoyed seeing his artistic spirit.  Very well done Capital City! So thankful our friends brought us and the only negative was that the night had to end!  I believe they may even plan some more in the future and I highly recommend venturing out for this truly unique taste bud adventure!
